Why waist sizes drift between sellers
There is no enforced standard for what a size thirty-two means across domestic manufacturers, and vanity sizing exists here too. Always convert the listed waist to centimetres and compare it to a measured pair of your own. Two listings both labelled the same size can differ by several centimetres, which is more than enough to make one of them unwearable.
Fabric behaviour after washing
Rigid denim and heavy cotton shrink noticeably, while blended and pre-washed fabrics move very little. If the listing does not say whether the fabric is pre-shrunk, assume it is not and plan for a small amount of movement in the first wash. Stretch fabrics recover better in the waist but tend to lose shape at the knee after a long day.
What QC should catch on trousers
Ask for a flat lay with the legs straight so you can see whether the inseams twist, plus a close frame of the fly and the waistband closure. Twisted legs are the defect people notice last and regret most, because it only shows when you walk. Uneven pocket placement and a waistband that is visibly wider at one end are the other two worth checking.
